(ORDO NEWS) — The first fraction of a second after the Big Bang, the universe was a hellish place, the temperature there reached a trillion degrees. Although scientists cannot directly observe this moment in time, they are able to reconstruct it using computer simulations.
So, the researchers modeled the end of inflation – this is a period in the development of the Universe, when it sharply increased in size. The results showed that inflatons were formed from the energy field that filled the entire space after the Big Bang.
Inflatons are tiny formations of quantum matter. At an early stage of development, they “stuck together” with each other, forming more complex and dense structures.
This is what one of the dense clusters of inflatons looks like. They arose during the inflationary phase of the Big Bang in the infancy of the universe. The mass of this cluster, according to scientists, reaches 20 kg. Photo: Jens Niemeyer / University of Göttingen
Scientists believe that the movements and interactions of inflatons could have caused ripples in the fabric of spacetime, called gravitational waves. To find out, researchers will continue to analyze the results of computer simulations.
