(ORDO NEWS) — The first flight tests of the Ingenuity helicopter, delivered to Mars aboard the Perseverance rover, are expected to take place next Monday, according to the website of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
According to the report, tests should begin at 10.30 am Moscow time. In a few hours, the data should arrive on Earth. At 21.00 GMT, a press briefing may take place, where the first results of the flight will be announced.
Ingenuity’s maiden flight was postponed several times. The first flight of the drone will allow collecting information about some parts of the surface of Mars, which are difficult to observe from space.
The flight of the 1.8-kilogram vehicle will take place at an altitude of 3-5 meters and will last at least a month in Earth time. NASA experts expect with the help of Perseverance to find traces of existence in the distant past of life on Mars.
