(ORDO NEWS) — The takeoff module of the Chinese lunar mission “Chang’e-5” was directed by specialists to the surface of a natural satellite and crashed against it.
As noted, this was done on purpose – the device did its job, delivering the service module and the capsule with the lunar soil into orbit, and returned to the surface so as not to clog the orbit.
The decision was made in spite of the fuel supply, which would extend the life of the module for some more time.
The service module is scheduled to leave towards Earth on December 12. Thanks to Chang’e-5, China has become the third country to extract a sample of lunar soil for delivery to Earth.
