(ORDO NEWS) — The Sun released a powerful solar flare that peaked on February 17, 2023. NASA‘s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which constantly monitors the Sun, captured the event.
The image shows a subset of extreme ultraviolet radiation that releases extremely hot material in flares. It is dyed turquoise.
Solar flares are powerful bursts of energy. Flares and eruptions on the Sun can affect radio communications, power grids, navigation signals and pose a danger to spacecraft and astronauts.
This flare is classified as an X2.2 flare. The X class indicates the high intensity of the flash, while the number gives more information about its strength.
