US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The Spanish government is working to create a new universal indicator – basic income, according to Bloomberg. As the publication explains, on its basis the leadership of the country, in which one of the largest outbreaks of coronavirus in Europe is observed, intends to provide support to citizens.
The project is coordinated by Social Security Minister Jose Luis Escriva. As he explained in an interview with the Spanish television company La Sexta, they plan to introduce a new indicator as soon as possible, focusing on “assisting families.”
The Minister of Economy Nadia Calvigno also takes an active part in the work on the project. At the same time, she noted that the government has more ambitious plans for “basic income” than urgent calculation of the volume of assistance to the population. The Minister noted that the indicator can remain a permanent “structural tool.”
Spain is facing the second largest outbreak of coronavirus in Europe. In the fight against the pandemic, the government declared a state of emergency. As a result, the entire economy of Spain also stopped.
At the same time, the authorities have already announced assistance to self-employed citizens, as well as to business. First of all, we are talking about small and medium enterprises. At the same time, Madrid has already announced that, apparently, additional measures will also be required.
