(ORDO NEWS) — The four astronauts returned to Earth in a SpaceX capsule on Friday, ending their nearly six-month mission on the International Space Station with a splashdown in the Atlantic off the coast of Florida.
Wet and windy weather across Florida delayed their return home. SpaceX and NASA finally gave the go-ahead on Friday, and three Americans and one Italian left the space station, where they have been since April.
The capsule parachuted into the ocean near Jacksonville, Florida about five hours later. On board were astronauts Kjell Lindgren, Bob Hines, Jessica Watkins and Samantha Cristoforetti. SpaceX delivered a replacement to them last week.
Before leaving, the astronauts said they couldn’t wait to be reunited with their families.
Three Americans, three Russians and one Japanese remain on board the ISS.
