(ORDO NEWS) — For the first time, Elon Musk‘s company is in no hurry to launch its tandem rocket and Starship spacecraft into orbit.
Most likely, this landmark orbital test flight will use the Booster 7 and Ship 24 launch vehicles (the latest modification of Starship), which were assembled last week at the Starbase orbital launch site (SpaceX‘s South Texas facility).
“We are proceeding very carefully. If RUD occurs on the pad, Starship progress will be delayed by about six months,” SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk wrote Oct.
16, using his favorite euphemism for the explosion. (RUD is short for Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly).
SpaceX has already conducted a brief “static fire” test of its Booster 7 and Ship 24 super-heavy rocket boosters, firing their Raptor engines, but Booster 7 fired just a few of its 33 Raptors at a time.
Therefore, as noted by the portal NASASpaceflight, the culmination of the test will be the launch of all 33 engines of the launch vehicle, then everyone can see the true power of Starship.
