(ORDO NEWS) — According to media reports, spacecraft company SpaceX, which is run by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, fired several employees involved in an open letter that criticized the billionaire for his behavior.
Reports released Friday cited an email from Gwynn Shotwell, president of SpaceX, saying the company had fired the employees who wrote and circulated the letter.
The writers of the letter condemned Musk for the actions, which they say are “a frequent source of distraction and embarrassment for us, especially in recent weeks.”
“The letter, the requests and the overall process made employees feel uncomfortable, intimidated and/or angry as the letter forced them to sign something that did not reflect their point of view,” Shotwell wrote in her email, according to the New York Times.
“We have too much important work to do, and there is no need for such excessive activity.”
An open letter from SpaceX employees criticizing Musk claimed that some of his tweets, sent out to his 98 million followers, cast the company in a bad light.
The layoffs came on Thursday, and on the same day, Musk first approached Twitter staff about his $44 billion deal to add the social network to his business empire.
