(ORDO NEWS) — Cornwall launch site wins UK‘s first space launch license.
The Cornwall launch site in the UK has received the country’s first ever space launch license, according to the UK Civil Aviation Authority website.
“The UK’s first orbital space launch is one step closer… as the Cornwall launch site has received the UK’s first ever license… (for this purpose),” it said in a statement.
The statement notes that the British aviation regulator issued a license to the Cornwall launch site after confirming its compliance with safety, location and other aspects necessary for the operation of the launch site in the UK, including for horizontal space launches.
“The emerging space industry (in the UK) will drive innovation and is valued at £16.5bn and will also provide 47,000 jobs,” the document says.
In 2015, the British Space Agency stated that in the future, the UK intends to become a European space hub for commercial space launches and a center for related technologies.
