The development of the unmanned Su-57 regime takes place against the background of the active development of the Hunter UAV, which is sometimes seen as an unmanned aerial vehicle for a new fighter. It is also worth noting that American and European sixth generation fighters are now considered as unmanned vehicles with the optional ability to pilot.
Su-57 is the first and today the only Russian fifth-generation fighter. This is a completely new machine, not the modernization of one of the Soviet models. Earlier, the Aerospace Forces signed a contract for the supply of 76 such machines: the first of them was supposed to be delivered at the end of the previous year, but the fighter crashed during the tests.
This incident was the third with the participation of the latest fighter and the first truly serious. Recall that in 2011, during the MAKS-2011 air show, the Su-57 launched a brake parachute during acceleration, which is why the fighter did not leave the runway. The second case was in 2014: then the plane caught fire after landing.
Accidents and disasters occur not only with the Su-57, but also with other new generation fighters: on the eve of one of the US fifth generation fighter F-22 suffered a crash during a training flight. The pilot catapulted and remained intact. Last year, an F-35A owned by the Japanese Air Force crashed over the Pacific Ocean, and in 2018, an American F-35B fighter with a short take-off and a vertical landing crashed.
Earlier it became known that the accident of the Su-57 should not fundamentally affect the implementation of the program. Unchanged and plans to improve the aircraft. In the future, the fighter should receive the so-called second-stage engine that meets the requirements of the fifth generation and can significantly increase the potential of the combat complex. In addition, the fighter’s arsenal of armaments intends to integrate new aviation weapons that will make it even more versatile.
