(ORDO NEWS) — In some areas of the province of Sharqiya, located in the north-east of Egypt, snow fell on the night.
According to her, some time ago the roads and roofs of buildings in the settlements of Sharqiya were covered with a thin layer of wet snow.
The newspaper publishes photographs of the inhabitants of the city on the 10th Ramadan, in which almost all the streets and squares were “covered” with snow for a while, and the highways were covered with ice.
The authorities of Cairo have introduced an emergency regime in the road and public services of the city after the past heavy rains.
By order of Governor Khaled Abdel Al, all employees of the housing and communal services system are at their workplaces around the clock, continuous coordination with the meteorological department has been established, and emergency teams are on duty.
Many streets of Cairo are blocked due to the accumulation of water, tunnels are temporarily closed, traffic is limited on bridges across the Nile River.
These measures were taken after a sharp drop in air temperature in the central and northern parts of Egypt and the onset of a powerful thunderstorm front from the Mediterranean coast.
The temperature at night drops by at least 10 degrees, which is especially alarming in the absence of central heating in the vast majority of residential buildings both in Cairo and in the cities of the Egyptian provinces.
According to weather forecasts, cold and rainy weather for the country will last for several more days.
