(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists are seriously concerned about the situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. For more than 30 years, the exclusion zone haunts, and the whole world, in the literal sense of the word, found itself on a “powder keg”. Now in the depths of the destroyed reactor, uranium fuel is smoldering.
This was reported by RBC Ukraine.
Anatoly Nosovskiy, director of the Institute for the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences in Ukraine, told in detail how dangerous this process is. He claims that no new threat has emerged. Now unstable structures at the reactor are being actively removed. By 2023, they plan to complete all work on the sarcophagus.
Strengthening the shelter is primarily necessary in order to prevent dust release. Now a safe ecological system is being built at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. A radically new approach will make it possible to make the accident site absolutely safe for workers and tourists.
Nosovsky claims that if there is an explosion, it will not be as dangerous as the 1986 accident. The sarcophagus will prevent the release of radiation dust into the air.
Nuclear processes will always take place there, inside the sarcophagus. But the situation is controlled by specialists. There is no nuclear threat, no need to exaggerate.
