(ORDO NEWS) — Google will add tracker detection to Android smartphones to protect against surveillance.
The Android OS will have a function to detect Bluetooth trackers to protect users from surveillance. This is reported by the publication 9to5google.
Enthusiasts analyzed the current beta version of Android, finding a mention of a new option in the OS code.
In version 22.12.13, we found a function that will allow you to determine the presence of an unknown Bluetooth beacon located in the vicinity of the user.
Thus, software developers intend to protect device owners from surveillance by unauthorized persons.
The code specifies that the added “unfamiliar device alert” feature will send “an unfamiliar tracker detection notification”. The option will be set to identify smart beacons using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology.
The journalists explained that the new technology will automatically detect the presence of extraneous Bluetooth beacons.
A similar option is present in the iPhone, which is able to detect the presence of AirTag trackers. To detect beacons on Android phones, you need to install a special application and scan.
In mid-February, Apple announced that it would update the software of AirTag smart beacons so that attackers could not use them for criminal purposes.
“We condemn in the strongest terms any malicious use of our products,” the company said.
