(ORDO NEWS) — To get a detailed and large-scale picture of the pollution of the World Ocean, a team of ecologists has created a special map. Scientists from The Ocean Clean Up from the Netherlands worked on the development of the project. The map shows the most polluted areas and the regions that make the maximum contribution to these pollution.
Reported by The Ocean Clean Club.
Examining the map, you can see that 80% of the plastic that enters the waters of the oceans comes from small and medium rivers, which is approximately 1,656 streams. As paradoxical as it may sound, the larger the river, the less pollution comes from it.
The watercourses of the Asian Southeast and Western Africa have the most negative impact on the ecology. Tropical islands, for example, are at increased risk of pollution.
The TOP places on the map that pollute the World Ocean as much as possible with plastic are:
As with rivers, a paradox has arisen with countries. The more plastic a country produces, the less it pollutes the environment. For example, China produces 10 times more plastic than Malaysia, but releases 10 times less into the ocean.
