(ORDO NEWS) — Asteroids will approach our planet on December 27, December 29 and January 6.
According to NASA, the first of them, called AH, has a diameter of 107 meters and will pass at a distance of about 4.55 million kilometers from Earth.
The second, called AE3, is 149 meters long (roughly the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt) and will approach us at a distance of 4.54 million kilometers. It will be the last largest asteroid to approach our planet by the end of the year.
The third, called YE15, is 7 meters long (about the size of a bus) and will travel approximately 7.4 million kilometers from Earth.
None of them pose a threat to us, since, according to NASA, even YE15, the largest of them, has not been designated as “potentially dangerous.” To fall into this category of objects, an asteroid must be more than 150 meters long and close to a distance of less than 7.5 million kilometers from Earth.
Despite the fact that about 16 tons of meteorites fall to the Earth every year, the last time a significant size of an asteroid fell in 1908 over the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Russia. When the asteroid exploded several kilometers above the area, it produced a massive 12 megaton explosion, causing massive destruction. Its strength was similar to that of 300 atomic bombs.
