Scientists will inform extraterrestrial civilizations about the climate crisis on Earth

(ORDO NEWS) — On October 5, a radio message will be transmitted in the direction of the TRAPPIST-1 planetary system, informing extraterrestrial civilizations about catastrophic climate changes on Earth.

This message will be written by a group of METI International experts, consisting of sociologists, historians, anthropologists and artists, who are convinced that humanity can benefit from contacts with a different mind, and also that it is necessary not only to wait for alien messages sent to earthlings, but also actively send them out, writes Space.com.

The October message, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the launch into space of the first artificial satellite of the Earth – the Soviet Sputnik-1 – is supposed to be sent from the Gunhilly Satellite Ground Station, located in the British county of Cornwall.

“Any aliens who receive our message will not be surprised to hear about our climate crisis,” said Douglas Vakoch, president of METI International.

“They have had decades to watch our plight from afar.” Communication is supposed to start with the transfer of universal scientific knowledge – for example, Mendeleev’s periodic table of elements.

The TRAPPIST-1 system is located at a distance of 39 light-years from Earth, so a response from there, if one does come, should wait at least 78 years.

However, it is possible that the technologically advanced alien life that lives in this system will be much more advanced than humanity, and will be able to give some reasonable advice on how to fight global warming.

Two weeks ago, it also became known about another campaign to send a message to extraterrestrial civilizations, called Beacon in the Galaxy – BITG – “Galactic Beacon”, which is an updated version of the famous message transmitted on November 16, 1974 by the Arecibo radio observatory in Puerto Rico in the direction globular star cluster M13, located at a distance of 25 thousand light years from Earth in the constellation Hercules. It is supposed to be sent from the Chinese FAST radio telescope.
