US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Italian scientists have confirmed the conclusion that taking aspirin is useful for the prevention of tumors of the digestive system, including those that are difficult to treat. The study is published in the journal Annals of Oncology.
Scientists conducted a meta-analysis of 113 studies on different types of cancer. The sample included works on diseases of the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, intestines. Tumors of the head and neck were also investigated.
It turned out that regular intake of one or two tablets of aspirin per week is associated with a reduced risk of developing these types of cancer. So, the probability of intestinal cancer is reduced by 27 percent, tumors of the stomach – by 36 percent, esophagus – by 33 percent, pancreas – by 22 percent.
The work showed that the probability increases depending on the dose of aspirin, however, the authors urge their conclusions to be taken with caution, because they are based on a relatively small data set.
In addition, the researchers remind that the drug dilutes the blood, and this can cause internal bleeding and damage to organs. Therefore, only a doctor can choose the right dose.
