(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the Yunnan Institute continue to study fauna in southern China, in Yunnan Province.
So they were able to detect several strains of viruses in bats that “cause concern”. The results of their research are published in the bioRxiv repository.
Detected viruses are able to move from one species to another. That is, a person can potentially become infected with them.
According to researchers, one of the viruses, BtSY2, is similar to SARS-CoV-2, which caused a pandemic in 2020.
“Our study highlights the prevalence of cross-species transmission of viruses,” the scientists noted.
Scientists have found that obesity protects the body from viruses
Virus samples were found in rectal samples from 149 bats of 15 species. It also turned out that one mouse became infected with several strains.
Further study of viruses could help prevent future pandemics.
