Scientists identified people who are immune to coronavirus
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — People who have had SARS in 2003 (the causative agent is the SARS-CoV virus) can be immune to the new type of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. This conclusion was made by a group of American and Swiss scientists. The results of their work are published by Nature.
The study showed that infection with the SARS-CoV virus stimulates the production of antibodies targeting the S-protein, which is responsible for docking the coronavirus with the surface of the body’s cells. It turned out that one of the types of antibodies, S309, can neutralize sections of the S-protein of coronavirus.
Scientists note that drugs based on this type of antibody can be used to treat severe forms of COVID-19 and for prevention among people at risk.
Currently, for the treatment of a disease caused by coronavirus, a blood transfusion is used from donors who have had COVID-19.
According to the latest data from the Russian operational headquarters to combat the spread of coronavirus, the number of people infected in the world amounted to almost 4.89 million people, more than 320 thousand people died. In Russia, the number of cases amounted to almost 300 thousand people. The Russian Federation is still in second place in the world in the number of cases, second only to the United States.
