(ORDO NEWS) — A quarter of a century ago, archaeologists discovered a human skeleton in a burial in the Serra da Capivara National Park (Brazil).
Based on the shape and size of the skull, the researchers determined that the skeleton belonged to a woman who lived about 9,600 years ago, so she was named Zuzu.
However, there are still heated debates about the fact that in fact the deceased person is not a woman, but a man. Zuzu’s facial reconstruction may end this controversy.
The researchers, led by archaeologist Moasir Elias Santos, took more than 50 digital photographs from different angles of the skull, which they then combined to create a virtual 3D model of the skull.
The scientists used computed tomography of the skull, which was compared with data from living men who have a similar shape and size of the skull.
Based on the data obtained, the researchers concluded that Zuzu is a young man, with a wide large nose, wide lips and narrow eyes.
In one of the images, scientists have added hair, eyebrows and a supposed complexion to a man.
But since this is not exactly known, the researchers created the final image of the head without hair and eyebrows, and even with closed eyes.
