(ORDO NEWS) — Thanks to modern technologies, the world learns the secrets of the past: mummies, glaciers, dinosaurs.
So, for example, with the help of digital scanning, we recently learned more about the “golden boy”.
The body of the mummified teenager is more than two thousand years old. And the peculiarity of the burial is that there were dozens of protective amulets made of gold on the mummy.
The tomb with the teenager was found in 1916, but for a long time it was kept in the basement of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Thanks to the scanning, scientists counted 49 golden amulets on the mummy. Jewels were not only on the neck of the Mummy, but also inside the body.
Scientists assume that in this way the priests tried to make it easier for the deceased to travel through the afterlife.
Amulets were supposed to protect the soul from evil spirits. Radiologist Sahar Salim, who participated in the study, confirms this theory.
Sahar said that during the burial procedure, the embalmers read prayers from the “Book of the Dead” and also placed amulets in the body around it.
Computed tomography is the best way to study mummies today. Previously, they had to be taken out, unfolded and prepared. Now a new approach allows you to leave the body intact.
Tomography showed that the amulets on the mummy are arranged in a composition of three columns. They have 21 different shapes and sizes.
For example, research has shown that the Mummy has an amulet in the shape of a tongue. According to ancient beliefs, he was supposed to help the deceased speak in the afterlife.
The knot of Isis helped the deceased to gain balance and equation with the dead. Inside the chest cavity is a scarab beetle amulet.
He also performs an important function according to ancient belief, namely, he helped not to testify against the deceased at God’s judgment.
The fact that the boy is buried in two coffins is also interesting.
Such honors indicate that the teenager was from a rich family and had a high economic status in society. The child died at the age of 14-15 and he was not Egyptian. The cause of death remains unknown.
