(ORDO NEWS) — Walking is an affordable physical activity. It is necessary for a person to maintain good health.
In recent years, it has been a very popular assumption that it is necessary to take at least 10,000 steps every day, but scientists say that this is not true.
Physical activity of this level is necessary for the heart to pump blood in the body. During walking, the blood flow works as much as possible, saturating the cells of the body with oxygen.
And, if you, like millions of people, have tried to walk 10,000 steps every day, but did not succeed in reaching the goal, do not despair. In fact, you can take much less steps.
Scientists from Kyoto University tried to find out the exact number of steps that each person should take every day. It turned out that the number of 10,000 was greatly exaggerated.
The researchers found out that 8000 is quite enough. Only such an indicator is minimal. In order to maintain normal health, you can take walks at a distance of 4-5 km just a few times a week.
They came to this result after measuring the vital signs of people who walked 8 or more thousand steps every day.
It turned out that it doesn’t matter what distance you walk, because the state of the cardiovascular system after walking for different distances will be absolutely the same in everyone.
The study showed that those who took 8,000 steps just a few times a week were 15% less likely to die suddenly. The same indicator was found among those who covered similar distances every day.
Dr. Kosuke Inoue says that walking is definitely necessary for our health. However, you should not exhaust yourself with it!
Even a couple of walks a week strengthen our heart and body. In addition to walking, scientists recommend diversifying physical activity by cycling, light training and morning gymnastics.
