(ORDO NEWS) — Researchers at the University of California School of Medicine have found that in addition to providing psycho-emotional assistance, cats can help get rid of certain skin conditions. Laboratory studies have shown that special feline bacteria have cured skin diseases in mice.
A bacterium that is most commonly found in domestic cats was selected for the study, namely the bacterium Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP).
In good health cats, this bacterium does not have a negative effect, but if the pet is sick or injured, this bacterium can cause the development of skin diseases. For example, it can cause atopic dermatitis, which is not only unpleasant but also extremely contagious.
In laboratory conditions, scientists have managed to grow bacteria found on the skin of other types of pets. Identified strain Staphylococcus felis (S. Felis), which showed good results in reducing the growth of MRSP. In addition, it was possible to determine that the production of a large number of Staphylococcus felis (S. felis) is able to completely suppress growth and destroy the MRSP. An experiment in mice with atopic dermatitis has been shown to be highly effective in reducing redness and flaking.
