(ORDO NEWS) — First, the authors note that insect eating by humans is nothing new.
This has happened throughout human history. However, many people consider eating insects a disgusting act.
But that could change, the scientists argue, if such food were delivered in the usual packaged or “civilized” form. Secondly, insects can be very nutritious. For example, common crickets are rich in protein.
The researchers also suggest converting livestock to insects. This will free up large tracts of land that are now used for growing fodder. In addition, insects are healthier food for animals.
The authors argue that the only deterrent to the use of insects as a food source is the will of those who produce the food.
