Scientists have discovered the dangerous properties of ozone

(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the University of Reading in the UK said that ozone, which protects the Earth from ultraviolet radiation, turns into a dangerous greenhouse gas when formed in the lower and middle layers of the atmosphere.

The team simulated changes in ozone levels in the upper and lower atmosphere between 1955 and 2000.

It turned out that ozone caused the warming of part of the ocean waters bordering Antarctica.

The scientists also found a link between the decrease in ozone levels in the upper atmosphere and its increase in the lower ones.

This contributed to warming in the ocean up to 2 km. This occurs in subpolar latitudes due to a general increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

And if in the upper layers of the atmosphere ozone is formed as a result of UV radiation and oxygen molecules, then in the lower layers it is the result of chemical reactions between pollutants, which include car exhaust and other emissions.
