(ORDO NEWS) — American scientists have created a unique medical tool for operations on internal organs. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found a way to fix tears in the intestinal wall or lung tissue in seconds.

Interestingly, the innovation is easy to use, like a patch, the tool can be removed at any time if necessary. Thanks to the invention, it will be possible to timely and effectively prevent tissue rupture of virtually any internal organs. Also, glue developed on the basis of a special hydrogel will help fix implants or parts of them.

In addition, using a unique “adhesive tape”, it will be convenient for doctors to adjust the position of tissues or organ walls directly during surgery. The substance consists of a number of biocompatible polymers, and N-hydroxysuccinimide used in the patch makes it possible to firmly bond it with proteins on tissue surfaces. The solvent for the glue mass was created by scientists based on sodium bicarbonate and the antioxidant glutathione. Tests of the invention in the lungs, intestines, and heart of a pig yielded positive results.

Bonded fabrics are separated without any damage within five minutes. And an additional version of the patch with microscopic pores allows the solution and glue to be carried out through such channels. Further developments will allow in the near future to apply new materials in the operating rooms of any hospitals around the world. Surgeons will quickly and efficiently fasten, fix, regulate and detach tissues without affecting organs.
