(ORDO NEWS) — American experts have developed a new revolutionary technique that allows for heart transplantation to reduce the likelihood of organ rejection.
This procedure was already performed on a 6-month-old baby, and the operation was successful.
According to the BBC Science Focus Magazine editor, the pioneering heart transplant technique was first used at Duke University in North Carolina (USA).
It consisted in the fact that tissue from the gland, which is located in the human immune system, was used in transplantation. The operation was performed on a 6-month-old child with severe heart defects.
Little Easton Cinnamon needed a transplant of both heart and thymus tissue. For a heart transplant, experts used donor thymus tissue for the first time. This reduced the risk of organ rejection.
The child underwent both transplant procedures in August 2021. He was then six months old. After 172 days, he feels well, that is, the operation was successful and the method was effective.
