(ORDO NEWS) — Neuroscientists have discovered a “mood decoder”. They are able to determine the mood of a person simply by looking at his brain activity. This discovery could improve the treatment of depression.
After analyzing the brain activity records of three of the five volunteers, the neuroscientists found that the cingulate cortex showed one activity when the patient felt good and another when the patient felt bad.
Before the experiment, the researchers implanted 14 electrodes into the brains of depressed volunteers. What they found, experts call extremely promising.
The scientists were not only able to link the volunteers’ specific brain activity to their mood, but they also found a way to stimulate a positive mood.
