(ORDO NEWS) — Data from a study published in Brain Imaging and Behavior showed that the more people watch TV, the less gray matter remains in the brain.
And in this area are the neurons responsible for the bulk of mental processing.
Ryan Dougherty, a researcher at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, pointed out that people who, on average, watched TV for about 1.5 hours longer than their peers, had a decrease in brain volume in middle and old age.
This decrease was approximately 0.5%.
This number may seem insignificant, but most scientists say that it is very important to keep the brain in the state in which it was in youth, until old age. This will help slow down the deterioration of thinking abilities with age.
