(ORDO NEWS) — American scientists have found out which methods of improving bad mood are most effective.
These methods include various cognitive techniques and mindfulness meditation techniques. Scientists from Ohio University decided to conduct an experiment and find out which of these methods are best. The experiment involved 616 students.
They were told about two approaches: cognitive technique and mindfulness meditation. The first approach involved the identification and re-evaluation of negative thoughts and beliefs, and the second was based on the awareness and acceptance of one’s thoughts and feelings without trying to change them.
Each participant was asked to imagine that a friend had not invited them to the party. After that, they were told which of the approaches they were better at.
They were then told to imagine that a loved one was dying. Additionally, they listened to Prokofiev’s cantata “Alexander Nevsky”. It is reported that the mood of the participants in the experiment worsened.
It turned out that the rate of improvement in mood did not depend on which method was used. However, it was influenced by which of the methods the volunteer considered the most mastered at home.
This helped them think that they were working to their strengths and not their weaknesses. That is, the best way to improve your mood is to be sure that some technique really works for you and helps.
