(ORDO NEWS) — Seismic anomalies are recorded on the Teide volcano: 70 volcanic-tectonic earthquakes occurred near the summit, raising concerns about an approaching eruption in Tenerife.
On May 27, 2020, a seismic swarm occurred on the eastern slope of the Teide volcano. A total of 70 volcanic-tectonic earthquakes occurred in the area within 8 hours. The maximum intensity of tremors was recorded at 02:51 GMT.
On May 27, 2020, the Canary Seismic Network, managed by INVOLCAN, registered a seismic swarm located between the municipalities of Vilaflor and Gia de Isora at depths of 7 to 12 km.
The maximum recorded magnitude of 2.9 is the strongest in Tenerife since January 2017.
