(ORDO NEWS) — Researchers from the Scottish University of St. Andrews decided to create a protocol on the desired list and procedure in the event that a signal is suddenly received from aliens or even a meeting with a representative of an alien civilization occurs.
Experts in political science and space science have teamed up to develop a set of rules in case of a sudden encounter with aliens, which can be useful to the inhabitants of the Earth.
Instead of focusing on sending messages to aliens, the new SETI detection center will scan signals for potential messages sent by alien life forms and develop a framework for interpreting those signals, according to John Elliot, new council leader and researcher at the University of St. Andrews.
Scientists will develop protocols for responding to hypothetical guests from other planets and describe the consequences of specific policies for interacting with them.
