(ORDO NEWS) — Engineers at the University of the West of England (UWE) used mushrooms to build the computer.
According to the organization’s specialists, they decided to use mycelium or mycelium, the vegetative body of fungi and actinomycetes, as one of the components for PC.
During the experiment, it turned out that the mycelium is able to transmit electrical impulses, which are not much different from those generated by the human brain.
British scientists noted that a developed mycelium can transmit impulses underground over considerable distances. Specialists have created a computer motherboard based on mycelium and silicon.
The data was transmitted using the binary number system. According to the author of the study, Professor Andrew Adamacki, mushrooms turned out to be an ideal material for the experiment.
According to Adamacki, as one would expect, the mycelium transmitted impulses worse than traditional PC components.
However, in the case of stimulation of the mycelium, the scientists managed to establish a good signal conductivity.
“We are simply demonstrating that you can do calculations with the help of mycelium,” the scientist said.
Earlier it became known that scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found a way to cool quantum computers via wireless communication.
Specialists transmitted data from a computer located in a special room to the terminal using terahertz waves, which were sent through a special window.
