(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) have published images of the center of the Milky Way.
The frames that were obtained three years after the start of the research were taken with the MeerKAT telescope.
It is noted that regions of strong radio emission are visible in bright colors in the image, the gray background indicates areas with less intense radiation.
To the left of the center is the escaping pulsar “Mouse”, and in the upper right part – the radio filament “Snake”.
In order to obtain images, astronomers conducted 20 sessions lasting 200 hours. After that, supercomputers analyzed 70 terabytes of data.
According to scientists, the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A * in the center of the Milky Way is 4 million years old.
