US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The Russian MiG-31 fighter “intercepted” a US spy plane over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea, the Russian National Defense Control Center said on Friday.
“The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air target as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135 of the US Air Force and escorted it over the water area,” it was reported.
The Bering Sea is the sea border between Russia and the United States.
“After the foreign military aircraft turned away from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter safely returned to the home airfield,” the press release says.
The MiG-31 from the Pacific Fleet’s air defense forces took off into the air.
“The flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace. Violations of the state border of the Russian Federation were not allowed,” the message says.
