Rotary blast engine tested for the first time

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) —  For the first time tested a rocket engine operating from rotating explosions. It was previously believed that such a system could not be made.

The tests were conducted by researchers at the University of Central Florida.

The principle of the system, which is called a rotating detonation rocket engine, is to detonate hydrogen and oxygen. In this case, the blast waves rotate continuously. In the experiment, it was possible to achieve rotation at a speed five times higher than the speed of sound.

It is reported that this technology has been studied since the 1960s, but has not been successful due to the propellants used or how to mix them.

Such a system can improve the efficiency of rocket engines: they will use less fuel and generate a lot of energy. This will make missiles easier, as well as reduce harmful emissions from launches.
