(ORDO NEWS) — Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered music and sound generators that can create completely new music tracks at the touch of a key are starting to be a growing concern for musicians and record labels.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is concerned that AI-powered music generators could threaten both the financial well-being and copyrights of artists.
Online services that use AI to “create or rather copy vocals and instrumental parts or some part of the instrumental compositions (musical basis) from a sound recording” to “create or remix a recording that is very similar or almost as good as the reference tracks” famous performers” violates “the rights of artists by making copies of their work”.
But whether the AI-generated tracks actually infringe the rights of musicians remains to be seen, as there are few legal precedents so far.
This story is very reminiscent of the recent scandal , when a number of online art communities banned or restricted the distribution of paintings created using a neural network.
