(ORDO NEWS) — A number of studies have shown that eating buckwheat can prolong life and relieve a person from stress by increasing the level of the SIRT1 protein in the body, reports the Journal of Cereal Science.
The conclusions of scientists are based on the results of experiments on rats that had a different diet. Those rodents that were stimulated to produce the SIRT1 protein lived much longer than others.
Protein SIRT1 belongs to the family of sirtuins – substances involved in the formation of fat cells and glucose metabolism. Increasing the concentration of protein in the body is possible by limiting food intake, but fasting is not suitable for everyone.
A much more gentle way to increase the concentration of a substance in the body is to eat buckwheat.
Buckwheat helped rats to significantly improve physical performance without a rigid diet and weight loss. During the research, scientists identified three groups of rats with different amounts of buckwheat in the diet: up to 30% of the total amount of food.
Fasting turned out to be the most dangerous: it did not lead to an increase in the concentration of protein in the blood. In contrast, in some organs, the SIRT1 level dropped to 95%, for example, in the stomach. In the blood, the indicator fell by 19%, and in the liver – 35%.
Interestingly, the rats with the highest amount of buckwheat gained weight, while the middle group with a moderate amount of buckwheat in the diet did not outwardly change.
Thus, people should add buckwheat to their diet to live longer and reduce stress levels caused by external factors.
