(ORDO NEWS) — Why have we still not had a single contact with representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations?
Why didn’t anyone come to us? Some planetary scientists are convinced that gravity may be to blame.
Scientists selected more than 200 Earth-like exoplanets that were deemed “potentially habitable” because they are in the habitable zone of their quiet parent stars (this ensures the presence of liquid water on the surface and the absence of deadly flares), have enough mass to hold an atmosphere and have a solid surface like our earth.
Having studied these distant worlds, the authors of the study found that the vast majority of promising exoplanets are significantly larger than the Earth, and to be more precise, Earth-like exoplanets are about 10 times more massive than our Home.
This suggests that such exoplanets are endowed with enormous gravity.
Even if intelligent beings live there who have adapted to such conditions, they are most likely not able to organize their space program.
Simple calculations showed that if the aliens decided to put a small satellite into orbit of such an exoplanet, then they would need to build a launch vehicle weighing more than 440,000 tons, since in order to give the first cosmic velocity (the minimum horizontal velocity that must be given to an object so that it moving in a circular orbit around the planet) would require a lot of fuel. Lots of fuel.
In other words, gravity can be an insurmountable obstacle for intelligent aliens who are forever chained to the surface of their world.
It is worth noting that superintelligent aliens can invent an alternative energy source that will still allow rockets to be launched. The option described above is just one of the possible explanations.
