US, NEW YORK (ORDO NEWS) — Powerful 8.00 magnitude earthquake hits Kermadec Islands near New Zealand.
Seismologists recorded on Thursday an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Kermadec archipelago, which is part of New Zealand. This was reported by the US Geological Survey.
The focus was located at a depth of 10 km.
The US National Tsunami Warning Center has declared a tsunami threat.
Earlier, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 occurred off the coast of the North Island. The threat of a tsunami was declared, and subsequently it was removed.
