(ORDO NEWS) — Pakistan suffered a massive power outage on Saturday, which plunged the entire country into darkness and power outages.
Lights went out in most cities, including the largest Pakistani city of Karachi, as well as Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, the capital of Islamabad, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Gujranwal, Peshawar and Bahawalpur.
According to Abid Qayyum Suleri, a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, the power outage was due to a 500 kV transmission line cut. A large coal-fired power plant went down, causing a chain reaction across the country.
Pakistani Energy Minister Omar Ayub said on Twitter that the power outage was due to a sudden frequency drop in the national power distribution system.
After a power outage in Pakistan, internet connections dropped 62%. Users are now struggling to connect to the internet as the crash continues.
