Physicists have calculated the speed of cork exit from a bottle of champagne

(ORDO NEWS) — Physicists from the French University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne have calculated the speed at which a champagne cork flies out of a bottle.

Experts have empirically established that the speed is supersonic, the 20 minutes portal writes.

The scientists opened the bottles and filmed the process on special equipment. After the experts studied the captured footage and made calculations.

“In many frames, we constantly saw the appearance of a small horizontal line parallel to the neck of the bottle.

This is a shock wave in which gas leaves the bottle at supersonic speed within a thousandth of a second after it is opened.

Like when a rocket takes off,” the physicists specified.

Also, after opening, a small blue cloud appears near the neck of the bottle. It is due to the fact that carbon dioxide in champagne turns into dry ice crystals, the scientists explained.
