US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The head of the Pentagon’s Mark Esper said he did not support the use of the Law of the uprisings to use the army in suppressing riots. Earlier, the possibility of using the law was publicly discussed by President Donald Trump.
“I do not support the appeal to the Uprising Act,” Esper said at a news conference.
In the US, the army is forbidden to use inside the country. However, this makes it possible to make a law in the case of armed uprisings, adopted as far back as 1807.
This law has been used more than once to suppress large-scale riots, including in 1967 in Detroit , in 1968 in Chicago and Baltimore , and also in 1992 during the pogroms in Los Angeles.
