(ORDO NEWS) — A 74-year-old pensioner found a bank book issued 60 years ago and received interest.
In Edinburgh, Scotland, a pensioner discovered a 60-year-old bank book and received £25 in interest. This is reported by the Daily Mirror.
Carol Ellison, 74, said she was six years old when she lived with her grandmother for a year, and every week she was taken to the local bank branch to put a shilling into her account.
“It was a very grown-up activity, and on the way home she stopped by the bakery to buy us iced cakes for our afternoon tea. We never ate them on the street, it didn’t even occur to us, we were waiting for afternoon tea, ”recalled Allison.
The pensioner received a bank book when her grandmother died at the age of 80 in 1969. The British woman forgot about the book and was surprised to find a 60-year-old document.
She took it to the local branch and was shocked to learn that the £2.50 she deposited into the account turned into £250.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of the UK received 775 thousand pounds to her bank account from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and could not return the money back.
As a result, the woman spent 20 thousand pounds sterling from a randomly received amount and after a year and three months turned to The Guardian to talk about what had happened and get support.
