(ORDO NEWS) — The answer to this question comes from a bag of over 100-year-old red onions found in the Discovery Hut built by polar explorer Robert Scott in 1902 on Ross Island in Antarctica.
As reported on the Antarctic Heritage Trust’s Facebook page in 2019, one of the artifacts examined at the Discovery Hut (built in 1902 on Ross Island in Antarctica) is a large bag of red bows.
It has lain, not drawing much attention to itself, for more than 100 years in the corner of a hut, since the expeditions to Antarctica at the beginning of the last century.
It is reported that one of the fund’s specialists carefully examined the bag and found no mold in it. The bow, as indicated, was wrinkled and deformed, but at the same time it is quite clear that this is it – and moreover, that it is a red bow.
Annual inspections of artifacts, including surveys, assess how well the hut is responding to conservation efforts and identify potential problems.
