(ORDO NEWS) — In 2020, astronomers captured a stunning image of the Omega Nebula, about five to six thousand light-years away.
A year ago, astronomers captured an amazing image of the Omega Nebula (also known as the Cygnus Nebula, for example). It includes data from the SOFIA observatory, the Spitzer and Herschel space telescopes.
The Omega Nebula is about 5,000 to 6,000 light-years from Earth, is about 15 light-years across, and has a mass of about 800 solar masses. It was discovered by the Swiss astronomer Jean Philippe de Chezo in 1745.
The image of the nebula allowed scientists to detect nine new protostars in it – regions where dust and gas collapse to form new stars.
