
Nikkei index jumps to 6-week high against hopes for cure for virus
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The Japanese Nikkei index peaked close in nearly six weeks on Friday following rising US futures, supported by reports of a possible cure for coronavirus and President Donald Trump‘s recommendations for resuming the economy.
The Nikkei Index rose 3.2%, ending the session at 19.897.26 points, the highest level of closure since March 9. Over the week, the index added 2%.
The broader Topix index gained 1.4% to 1.442.54 points.
