(ORDO NEWS) — A new strain of the immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS has been discovered in Cyprus.
The new strain was discovered by scientists from the University of Cyprus and the Los Alamos National HIV Laboratory in New Mexico.
It was named “CRF91_cpx”. It was identified in 14 men of non-traditional sexual orientation.
“CRF91_cpx was found in 14 people with HIV-1 living in Cyprus.
Epidemiological analysis shows that the CRF91_cpx strain circulates mainly among Cypriot men who have sex with men who were infected in Cyprus.
In addition, the newspaper clarifies that the clinical manifestations of the new strain are still unknown.
Recall that HIV is a slowly progressive infectious disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus.
