New species of frog named after climate activist Greta Thunberg

(ORDO NEWS) — Some time ago, a new species of rain frog was discovered in the Panamanian jungle. As a result, the right to give her a name was played at an auction.

The process was organized by the environmental organization Rainforest Trust. She put up a lot, in which the winner was asked to choose a name for the new species.

As a result, the participant who offered the largest amount decided to name the amphibian Pristimantis gretathunbergae after the famous eco-activist.

At the time of publication of the material, Greta Thunberg herself did not react to what happened.

Recall that a miniature brightly colored frog was discovered during an expedition to Mount Chukanti in Panama. According to experts, the head of a living being is unique to Central American rain frogs.

The new frog’s unusual habitat is under threat. The reason is rather banal for the region – rapid deforestation.
