US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Ken McCallum, the new head of the British counterintelligence service MI-5, led the investigation into the alleged poisoning in Salisbury in 2018 of ex-GRU colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia, who was led by his department. About this writes on Monday the newspaper The Times.
Earlier Monday, the British Interior Ministry reported that Ken McCallum has been working in MI-5 for almost 25 years. In 2012, he oversaw anti terrorism investigations before and during the London Summer Olympics.
The new MI-5 chapter, who, according to The Times, studied mathematics at the University of Glasgow, will take office at the end of April and succeed Andrew Parker.
On March 4, 2018, former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal, convicted in Russia for spying for Britain, and his daughter Julia were exposed to Salisbury, according to the British side, to the effects of a nerve agent. London later stated that the substance was allegedly being developed in Russia, and on this basis accused Moscow of involvement in the incident.
The Russian side categorically rejected all speculation in this regard, pointing out that there were no programs for the development of such a substance either in the USSR or in Russia. Specialists from a laboratory in Porton Down, UK, were never able to determine the origin of the substance with which Skripali was poisoned.
